Is the world a simulation?

Is the world real? This seemingly simple question can be interpreted in many different ways. According to the article "are we living in a computer simulation" there are theories that we are in fact all just computer simulations, maybe even the ancestors of the people who created us. The article has many major points that make you think, hard. And so, I did a lot of thinking. I have come to the conclusion that I believe that the world is real. However my overly active imagination does not. Saying that the world is not real, that it is just a simulation is almost unimaginable. It'd be like saying that everything you know, everything that you believe in is a lie. It's almost easier to just stick to what you know. Whenever I read this article I can't help but to think up my own crazy ideas about what the world or even life truly is. I think that there are definitely many secrets about these major topics and its up to us to solve the puzzle.

The book of job vs holocaust survivors

I found the interview of moshe Yosef daum and fela nussbaum very interesting. It seemed to have accurately portrayed both opinions on god from a survivors point of view. It's can be compared to the book of Job in many ways. In the book of job satin believed that job was only loyal to God because nothing significantly bad has ever happened to job. Because of this God said that Satin could torture job. God wanted to prove that even when bad things happened job would still prove loyal to God. Just like job, Fela did not stay faithful to God. Both job and fela experienced their first families dying then had new ones. Even though job and fela loved their new families they could not forgive God for letting their firsts die. Fela was loyal to God right up until she got off the train to Auschwitz where she had to make one of the hardest decisions a parent would have to make, fela had to decide weather to give up her child to die alone, or die with her child. It was a lose lose situation. Both fela and Job were confused. How could someone so powerful as God allow such terrible things to happen. Unlike job and fela,Moshe Yosef believed that  “A God who limits himself to actions that we humans can understand couldn’t possibly be God.” Moshe Yosef staying faithful to God after surviving the holocaust is a miracle in its self. Moshe continued to stay loyal to God after liberation disputed his great suffering. This shows that even though satin won the bet with God in the book of job, even after going through a great hardship people can remain loyal to their God.

Highschool so far

I have been going to high school for about a month now. It's much different than I thought It would be, definitely no high school musical. There are some perks about this new found freedom, you have to learn to use it wisely. So far the the best thing about high school is that most of your teachers treat you like young adults, unless you give them a reason not to. In middle school it felt like we were still in elementary school. The school trusts you enough to let you leave the school, give you I pads and let you take care of yourself. Its a nice way to ease into adult hood. One of my favorite things to do that I couldn't do in middle school is that I can go home! My house is right down the street so during lunch it's nice to go home, or if I got for something at home I can just run and go get it. During the day I mostly feel less stressed because I don't feel like I'm in a jail for 7 hours. Surprisingly I also like carrying around my backpack, everything I have is all in one place there is no "I left my home work in my locker" then desperately searching for it through the mess that is a locker. However all these perks definitely come with some cons. High school can be scary, especially when your only 14. It's weird going from the oldest to the youngest so quickly. There can be a lot more opportunities to do some bad things that you have to be smart enough to avoid. This is the time in our lives that we really start to plan for the future. Even something as simple as getting involved with the wrong group of people can affect your future. The work load is already much greater than I've been used to. It can be difficult to keep on task all the time but it is necessary because it seems as though everything is connected. If I fail one test my gpa will drop and my dream college will become out of reach. I know this is being overly dramatic but this is how it feels.
So far I've learned that With all these new responsibilities come lots of new stress but you need to keep up the good work. I know that right along these hallways holds great opportunity, it's up to me what I do with it.

Genesis 6-9 mind map

This is my mind Map for Genesis 6-9. In class we used the S.T.E.A.L method to characterize God from the text. I have never been religious so I never really had a very big perspective on God. Reading Genesis gave me a better idea about who God is and what he can do. I was always taught to believe that God created everything on earth, he does everything for a reason, and that he can do no wrong. I no longer agree completely with this. I still believe that everything is done for a reason, but  necessarily a good one. God created a great flood so that all living things on land would be wiped out , all land species extinct. All because he thought that the world had become to violent. This does make sense but wiping out entire populations and then putting a ton of stress on Noah to keep all these animals alive and to build a huge boat is very irrational. There are other Ways god could've fixed this violence problem. The characterizations that we made about God show us that he is more like a normal human than I had thought in the past.

Genesis

In the story "genesis" lord god created everything on earth. He created land, sea and sky. All plants and animals then finally God created humans to watch over all of this land. He created Adam the fist man then eve was built out of Adams rib. She was made to be a helper for adam. God put them in a beautiful garden where nothing bad happened, it was heaven on earth. Foods and water was plentiful there was only one rule, not to eat from the trees of evil or knowledge for they would die if they ate from these magical trees. There was once a very crafty snake. This snake asked eve if God really said that her and Adam could not eat the fruit off these magical trees. She said yes but this snake was very mischievous. He convinced eve that she would not die. Eve ate the fruit with Adam and had to face the consequences, one of them was being kicked out of the forest. I think that it was mostly the snakes fault for Adam and Eve getting kicked out of the garden. The snake knew that eve was Naive and would be easily tempted to eat the forbidden fruit. The snake might have thought that if the humans were kicked out of the garden then the snake would rule. If the snake didn't temp eve she most likely would not have eaten the fruit

Flood

We have learned that in just about every culture there is a story of a flood. The story of the flood in the epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest known flood story.I read the flood story from the Transylvanian Gypsy culture (http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/flood-myths.html#Turkey) .Just like any flood story there are similarities and differences from the Gilgamesh version. In this story there are no gods that create the flood. The flood in this story is a consequence of someones wrong doings. This flood lasted for very long, just about one year. The flood in Gilgamesh only takes place for 6 days.Almost all people were wiped out in this flood due to it lasting for so long. it took thousands of years for the people who were on the boat to repopulate the land. And unlike many other flood stories there was no bird set free in search of land.I found it strange that in this story after the husbands wife died he had
to just pick a new one to bring aboard the ship.In both stories the men were able to take their families on the ship. Unlike Upta-napishti this man brought along seeds of trees and herbs so that when the water subsided he could begin to farm the land again. He also brought along animals. After the flood this man was not confronted by anyone who caused the flood or the old traveler to tell him what to do next. All floods stories have their own unique details but follow a basic story line of something bad happening, a person of greater power warning a normal person, the building of a boat, and the after math. This shows that after all these years people still take interest in their cultures past. All cultures may have seemed from one.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog. I'm a freshman at Roslyn high school. I'm keeping this blog because my teacher  assigned us to. He says it's going to be fun. I like to do art gymnastics yoga and flying trapeze. I love animals. I want to be a vet when I grow up. I also love to hang out with friends and listen to music. Most of my posts will be all about freshman humanities class.
